Since the untimely passing of the esteemed broadcaster Bob Cole on April 24, the hockey community has been inundated with tributes celebrating his illustrious career. Among those paying homage is Max Domi, a forward for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who has fond memories intertwined with Cole’s legacy.
Domi, a native of Toronto, grew up in the hockey world while his father, Tie Domi, played for the Maple Leafs. Arriving at Scotiabank Arena for Game 4 against the Boston Bruins, Domi proudly sported the iconic Hockey Night in Canada baby blue blazer, symbolizing the rich history and tradition of the sport.
The HNIC blazer, adorned with the vintage logo, served as a significant emblem during Saturday night broadcasts, a reminder of Cole’s influential presence in the broadcasting realm. In a heartwarming gesture, the Maple Leafs, alongside the Bruins, honored Cole with a poignant video tribute before Game 4, marking a profound moment in hockey history.
From 1980 to 2008, Bob Cole engraved his mark as the play-by-play announcer for Hockey Night in Canada, narrating countless iconic moments in Maple Leafs history. His distinctive voice resonated through the airwaves during pivotal games, including the historic farewell to Maple Leaf Gardens and Doug Gilmour’s unforgettable wraparound goal in the 1993 playoffs.

During the first Hockey Night in Canada broadcast following Cole’s passing, Ron MacLean engaged in a heartfelt conversation with Wayne Gretzky, reflecting on Cole’s profound impact on Canadian hockey.
