Friend.tech Prepares for Airdrop as Version 2 Launch Looms

Friend.tech, a blockchain-based social app, is gearing up to release its much-anticipated Version 2. The team has recently announced that they have taken a snapshot in preparation for a 100% airdrop of their FRIEND token. In a tweet, they stated that points balances have been locked in, and transferring points by unlinking or relinking Twitter accounts will no longer be possible. They have invited users to join them next week for when points go onchain, although the exact date of the airdrop remains undisclosed. Speculation in the community suggests that the airdrop may occur as soon as next week, coinciding with the onchain integration of points balances.

Friend.tech operates as a decentralized social media platform on Base, an Ethereum Layer 2 solution incubated by Coinbase. Upon its initial launch in August 2023, the platform garnered significant attention, generating both excitement and controversy. Despite its initial success, user activity on the platform dwindled over time. However, with the impending release of Version 2, interest in the platform has been reignited.

One of the standout features of the upcoming Version 2 is the introduction of the Money Club. This feature will enable communities to manage shared treasuries and create tradable onchain collectibles such as NFTs, meme coins, and various other forms of digital media. Additionally, the platform will unveil a new point system, integral to the upcoming airdrop, and custom curve functionalities that empower users to devise their own engagement metrics.

Version 2 will also bring about improvements in usability, allowing subjects to personalize their chat spaces with aesthetic and functional enhancements like polls, raffles, and visual themes. Noted crypto investor John Wang shared insights into the new features via a Twitter thread, emphasizing that Version 1 was merely the beta phase and asserting that Friend.tech is here to stay for the long run.
