Changpeng Zhao Emphasizes Importance of Compliance in Crypto Industry
Former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao recently highlighted the critical importance of compliance in the crypto industry, declaring that it has entered a new phase where adherence to regulatory standards is paramount. This statement comes in the wake of Zhao’s four-month prison sentence for violating US compliance regulations.
During his public address, Zhao emphasized the significance of compliance, stating, “I will remain a passive investor (and holder) in crypto. Our industry has entered a new phase. Compliance is super important. A silver lining of this whole process is that Binance has been under the microscope. And funds are SAFU.”
Last year, Zhao acknowledged his guilt in federal money laundering charges. Prosecutors revealed a lax corporate culture at Binance that prioritized expansion over fraud prevention, leading to Zhao’s departure from the company and a substantial $150 million fine imposed by regulators.
Regulatory Scrutiny in the Crypto Industry
The recent sentencing of Zhao comes amidst a period of heightened regulatory scrutiny within the crypto sector on a global scale. Regulatory bodies in the US have intensified their focus on major crypto exchanges such as Binance, Coinbase, and Kraken, in an effort to promote compliance and transparency within the industry.

Following his legal troubles, Zhao has expressed a newfound commitment to education through the launch of the Giggle Academy project. This non-profit educational platform aims to address educational disparities by providing free fundamental education to underprivileged communities that lack access to traditional schooling.
Giggle Academy offers an interactive and tailored approach to learning, seeking to empower individuals from a young age. Zhao has shared updates on the project’s progress, including the introduction of its logo and plans to target children as young as 2-3 years old for educational interventions.
