However, with no clear successor in sight, Bayern has engaged in discussions with Tuchel about the possibility of him staying on as the coach.
Tuchel, who has been eyeing a potential move to Manchester United in the event that Erik ten Hag departs, is now facing uncertainty about his future at the club. Despite his interest in the United job, Tuchel is concerned that even if Ten Hag leaves, he might not be selected as the replacement due to the club’s vision for a coach who can seamlessly integrate into a broader organizational structure, rather than take full control.
Known for his assertive demeanor and willingness to challenge club leadership, Tuchel’s approach may clash with the preferences of United’s incoming sporting director, Dan Ashworth. Ashworth, who has established a successful track record as a sporting director working with Gareth Southgate and Graham Potter, could potentially prioritize a different coaching style that aligns more closely with his strategic objectives.
Despite the uncertainties surrounding his future, Tuchel remains open to the possibility of engaging in formal discussions with Manchester United should negotiations with Bayern reach an impasse and a coaching vacancy emerges at Old Trafford.
Manchester United’s Decision-Making Timeline
Manchester United is expected to delay any decisions regarding Erik ten Hag’s future until after the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25. Ten Hag, whose contract extends until 2025, has faced mounting criticism following a disappointing season that saw United finish last in their Champions League group and potentially record their lowest Premier League finish in history.
With United currently sitting in eighth place in the league, the team’s prospects of European qualification for the next season hinge on finishing in the top seven or winning the FA Cup. United’s fate will be decided on the last matchday, where they must outperform Newcastle United’s result against Brentford to secure a seventh-place finish and potentially salvage their European ambitions.
