NFC Summit in Lisbon Showcases the Future of Digital Culture
Lisbon’s iconic Carlos Lopes Pavilion was the stage for the third edition of the NFC Summit, a gathering of over 5,000 attendees immersed in a program focused on digital culture. The event featured art, fashion, gaming, film, and even beach parties. With more than 260 speakers, the summit covered topics from Bitcoin to meme tokens, attracting renowned artists and personalities from the NFT space like Beeple, Deekaymotion, Claire Silver, Punk6529, and Patrick Amadon.
Artistic Perspectives on Post-Human Modernism
Conceptual artist Kevin Abosch delivered a thought-provoking talk on “post-human modernism” during the summit. He shared insights on his recent project, “Civics,” a series of AI-generated “synthetic photos” depicting protest and civil disobedience. Abosch challenged the notion of traditional photography, stating that synthetic photographs can convey a level of honesty that traditional photos may lack.

The AIFA Awards Celebrate AI Filmmakers
The NFC Lisbon event also hosted the inaugural AIFA Awards, recognizing the work of AI filmmakers. The AImagine Award for Best Film went to “Denny the Shark,” a creation of the collaborative duo Ethereal Moon, comprising Melody Bossan (aka LeMoon) and Dina Lockamy (aka Ethereal Gwirl). The awards highlighted the potential of AI to empower creators on a global scale, allowing them to compete with major film productions.
ABS Digital Art Prize Honors Innovation
French artist RVig received the ABS Digital Art Prize at the summit for the piece “Les Fleurs du Mal,” a reinterpretation of Charles Baudelaire’s poetry through evolving ribbons. RVig emphasized the evolving nature of art, encouraging the exploration of digital and NFT art despite lingering skepticism.
Art is always evolving,” said RVig upon receiving the prize. “Today, digital and NFT art still faces skepticism. But in my humble opinion, we can all be inspired by Charles Baudelaire—let’s push boundaries.”
