Adrian Newey Leaves Red Bull Racing After 18 Years

Chief technical officer Adrian Newey is departing from Red Bull Racing after an 18-year tenure, as reported by BBC Sport and Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport.

Newey played a pivotal role in Red Bull’s success, contributing to the team’s conquest of seven drivers’ championships and six constructors’ championships during his time with the organization.

Reasons for Departure

According to BBC Sport, Newey’s decision to leave stems from allegations surrounding team principal Christian Horner, who faced accusations of misconduct toward an employee. Despite Red Bull’s dismissal of the allegations following an internal investigation and Horner’s denial of any wrongdoing, Newey has opted to part ways with the team.

BBC Sport did not disclose Newey’s next destination, but speculations have linked him to Ferrari, and there have been reports of an offer from Aston Martin. Other teams are also likely to express interest in acquiring Newey’s services in the future.

Professional Background

Prior to his role at Red Bull, Newey made significant contributions to the Formula 1 landscape, designing championship-winning cars for Williams and McLaren throughout the 1990s. His expertise and innovation were instrumental in the success of these renowned teams.

During Newey’s tenure at Red Bull, the team achieved remarkable achievements, securing four consecutive constructors’ championships and drivers’ championships with Sebastian Vettel from 2010 to 2013. The team continued its dominance in recent years, clinching the past two constructors’ championships and three drivers’ championships with Max Verstappen at the helm.

Red Bull’s performance in the previous season was exceptional, with the team winning a record 21 out of 22 races. The current season has also seen a strong start for Red Bull, with Verstappen and Sergio Perez leading the standings and holding a substantial 44-point advantage over Ferrari in the constructors’ standings. Verstappen has emerged victorious in four out of five races this season, with a brake issue in Australia being the only setback preventing a clean sweep.

Newey shared his insights and experiences in the Formula 1 realm by authoring his memoir titled “How to Build a Car” in 2017.
