Amazon Web Services Expands Generative AI Offerings with Mistral Large

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has recently unveiled Mistral Large, its latest addition to Amazon Bedrock, a managed service for generative AI offerings and application development. This move comes as part of AWS’s ongoing efforts to provide customers with cutting-edge AI technologies and enterprise-grade tooling in a secure environment, allowing for advanced AI app development.

Released in February, Mistral Large is a state-of-the-art text generation model specifically designed for complex multilingual reasoning tasks, including text understanding, transformation, and code generation. Operating as one of the top-ranked models available via an API, Mistral Large supports multiple languages, such as English, French, Spanish, German, and Italian, and boasts a 32K tokens context window for precise instruction-following, enabling developers to tailor their moderation policies.

According to Vasi Philomin, Vice President of Generative AI at AWS, the integration of Mistral AI models into Amazon Bedrock represents a significant milestone in the company’s mission to make frontier AI ubiquitous. By collaborating with leading cloud providers like AWS, Mistral AI aims to deliver tailor-made AI solutions to developers worldwide, leveraging AWS’s secure and reliable infrastructure to distribute their top-tier models effectively.

Global Availability and Future Developments

As of now, all Mistral models are accessible in the US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), and EU-West-3 (Paris) regions through Amazon Bedrock. This addition aligns Mistral AI with other prominent model providers like Anthropic, AI21 Labs, Cohere, Meta, Stability AI, and Amazon, showcasing the company’s commitment to innovation and collaboration within the AI industry.

Looking ahead, Amazon has disclosed plans for further collaboration with Mistral AI, intending to leverage its Tranium and Inferentia silicon chips for the development and deployment of future foundational models. This strategic partnership underscores Amazon’s dedication to advancing AI technology and providing developers with state-of-the-art resources to drive innovation and growth.

Furthermore, Amazon Bedrock’s expansion into France signifies a significant milestone for developers in the region, granting them access to all supported LLMs and foundational models while ensuring data security and privacy within French borders. This development highlights AWS’s ongoing commitment to expanding its AI offerings globally and fostering strategic partnerships to empower developers and organizations with cutting-edge AI capabilities.
