Calgary Flames Defeat San Jose Sharks in Overtime

Andrei Kuzmenko secured a power-play goal just 2 minutes and 58 seconds into overtime, propelling the Calgary Flames to a thrilling 3-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night. The Flames, who had suffered three consecutive losses and eight defeats in their last nine games, found redemption in this hard-fought battle.

Rasmus Andersson and Nazem Kadri also left their mark on the game, contributing goals for the Flames. On the other end, William Eklund and Jacob MacDonald managed to find the back of the net for the San Jose Sharks, displaying their offensive prowess.

The Sharks, currently sitting at the bottom of the standings, have struggled as of late, losing four of their last five games. If the Chicago Blackhawks emerge victorious over the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday, San Jose will lock in the dubious title of possessing the worst record in the NHL and will have a significant 25.5% chance of claiming the top pick in the upcoming draft lottery.

Key Moments of the Game

Kuzmenko’s decisive goal came following a frenzied scramble in front of the net, showcasing the Flames’ resilience and determination. Flames goaltender Dustin Wolf, facing his hometown team, put on a solid performance with 20 saves. On the other side, Mackenzie Blackwood stood tall in the Sharks’ net, turning away 38 shots.

Early in the match, Eklund capitalized on a beautiful backhand finish after a perfectly executed pass from Fabian Zetterlund, giving the Sharks a 1-0 lead after the first period. Eklund, who had previously netted a hat trick, continues to impress with points in 10 of his last 11 home games. MacDonald extended the Sharks’ lead in the second period, only to see the Flames mount a spirited comeback with goals from Andersson and Kadri, setting the stage for an intense finale.

Unfortunately for the Sharks, forward Filip Zadina was sidelined with a lower-body injury, further complicating their efforts to secure a victory.

Upcoming Matches

The Flames will look to carry their momentum forward as they prepare to face off against the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Sharks will aim to bounce back when they take on the Seattle Kraken in their next contest.
