Bayern Munich Makes Final Contract Offer to Alphonso Davies
Bavarian sports director, Max Eberl, has confirmed that Bayern Munich has presented Canadian left back Alphonso Davies with a definitive contract offer in an effort to extend his current agreement with the club. Amid speculation of interest from Real Madrid, Eberl stated, “I can say we made Alphonso a very concrete, appreciative offer. At some point in life, you have to say yes or no.”
Davies’ contract with Bayern is set to expire at the conclusion of the next season, potentially allowing the 23-year-old player to depart in 2025 without requiring Bayern to receive a compensation fee if he chooses not to renew. Reports from Spanish media outlets indicate that Davies may have already come to terms with Real Madrid on a potential transfer; however, Eberl divulged that the La Liga giants have not made contact with Bayern regarding the player. Should Davies opt to depart at the end of the current season, Bayern could demand a fee for his services.
Expressing the club’s stance on player retention, Eberl reinforced, “No club wants to lose players for free,” during his recent presentation. Davies, who has netted 15 goals in 45 appearances for the Canadian national team, has amassed 127 Bundesliga outings for Bayern since joining the club in January 2019.
Originally born in Ghana and now representing Canada, Davies made the switch to Bayern following an agreement between the Bavarian club and the Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019. The transfer, valued at up to $22 million, marked a record deal for a Major League Soccer player at the time.
