Tee Higgins Requests Trade from Bengals
Cincinnati Bengals franchise wide receiver Tee Higgins has reportedly requested a trade, as per sources familiar with the situation. Despite his love for the team and desire to stay long term, Higgins is said to be disappointed by the lack of discussions regarding a contract extension since March 2023.
Selected in the second round of the 2020 draft, Higgins is approaching the end of his rookie contract with Cincinnati. In his first four seasons, he has amassed impressive stats, with 257 receptions for 3,684 yards and 24 touchdowns. Additionally, in postseason play, he has contributed 31 receptions for 457 yards and three touchdowns in seven games.
This isn’t the first time speculation about Higgins’ future with the team has surfaced. Even at the previous year’s NFL scouting combine, Bengals executive Duke Tobin swiftly dismissed any talks of trading the talented wide receiver. However, negotiations for a contract extension fell through, leading Higgins to enter the final year of his current deal.
Despite facing injuries that limited his playing time in the 2023 season to only 12 games, Higgins still managed to showcase his skills with 42 receptions, 656 receiving yards, and five touchdowns. Both publicly and privately, he has expressed his intentions to continue playing for the Bengals in the long term.
While Higgins’ desire to remain in Cincinnati is clear, the uncertainty surrounding his contract situation adds a layer of complexity to the team’s future offensive plans.
