The Rise of Bitcoin Ordinals
Bitcoin is currently experiencing a surge in price, breaking its 2021 peak and generating significant interest. The introduction of spot Bitcoin ETFs, along with the upcoming Bitcoin halving and the Runes token protocol, has created a buzz in the cryptocurrency market. In the midst of all this excitement, Bitcoin Ordinals have emerged as a hot commodity, reshaping the landscape of digital assets and marketplaces.
NodeMonkes
NodeMonkes can be likened to the CryptoPunks of the Bitcoin Ordinals ecosystem. These chunky-pixel avatars are part of a 10,000-item profile picture collection that has gained immense value. With prices starting at $45,000 worth of Bitcoin, NodeMonkes have soared in popularity, with one selling for over $1 million in March.
Runestone
Launched in March, Runestone is a project that features over 112,000 Ordinals assets, distributed for free to collectors who met specific criteria during Bitcoin’s early days. This collection of gleaming digital crystals has become highly sought after, boasting a market cap of $650 million. Holders of Runestone assets are set to receive up to three token airdrops when the Bitcoin Runes protocol goes live. The first token will be a meme coin based on a dog.
Taproot Wizards/Quantum Cats
Taproot Wizards, the first prominent Bitcoin Ordinals collection, has secured $7.5 million in funding to advance Bitcoin development. Although the original assets are not tradable, Taproot Wizards introduced Quantum Cats, which garnered a market cap of $68 million, featuring an auction through Sotheby’s.
Bitcoin Puppets
Bitcoin Puppets have quickly risen in value and visibility within the Ordinals space. These visually unique monkey characters, with a starting price of $28,000, have garnered attention for their distinct designs and references. Additionally, Rune Pups, airdropped to Bitcoin Puppets holders, have added to the project’s appeal.
RSIC Metaprotocol
RSIC Metaprotocol caught the Bitcoin community’s attention by airdropping 21,000 inscriptions to Ordinals collectors’ wallets in January. With a gamified mining feature for the upcoming Runes protocol launch, the project has seen its market cap exceed $130 million.
OnChainMonkey
OnChainMonkey stands out as a project that migrated from Ethereum to Bitcoin Ordinals. Users were given the option to move their Ethereum NFTs to the chain, with incentives including a BRC-20 token called KARMA.
Ordinal Maxi Biz
Ordinal Maxi Bix offers a lo-fi aesthetic with over 5,200 unique assets, each resembling a pen-drawn interpretation of Ethereum’s CryptoPunks. Collaborating with artists Tony Tafuro, zk-Shark, and NULLISH, this collection is among the most valuable Ordinals projects, with assets starting at nearly $30,000 worth of Bitcoin.
