Columbus Blue Jackets Defeat Edmonton Oilers with 4-2 Victory
Matthew Olivier, Alex Nylander, and Dmitri Vornkov set the pace with goals in the first period, leading the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 4-2 triumph over the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night. Daniil Tarasov’s stellar performance in goal, where he stopped 29 shots, was pivotal for Columbus, although they remain at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division standings.
Connor McDavid reached a significant milestone by notching his 100th point of the season for the Oilers. Despite goals from Zach Hyman and Corey Perry, along with Calvin Pickard’s 30 saves, Edmonton succumbed to Columbus, maintaining their second-place position in the Pacific Division behind the Vancouver Canucks.
Early Dominance by Columbus
The Blue Jackets wasted no time taking control of the game, striking with goals from Olivier, Nylander, and Vornkov in the first period. Olivier opened the scoring at 6:20 off a pass from Sean Kuraly. Nylander extended the lead to 2-0 with a goal at 5:06 left in the period, marking his fourth goal in three games since joining from Pittsburgh. Vornkov concluded the period with an unassisted goal, his 17th of the season, tying him for the NHL rookie lead.
In the second period, Hyman swiftly narrowed the gap to 3-1, scoring a goal for the Oilers just 1:11 into the frame.
McDavid’s Milestone and Late Drama
McDavid’s assist on a goal made him only the sixth player in NHL history to achieve at least seven seasons with 100 points. His impressive performance also extended his scoring streak to 13 games. Despite a late power-play goal from Perry that brought the Oilers within one, and an open-netter from Roslovic securing the win for Columbus with 20 seconds remaining.
