Toronto Blue Jays Preparing for Next Games

The Toronto Blue Jays are carefully considering their pitching rotation for the upcoming games after starter Kevin Gausman threw a successful side session on Friday. Manager John Schneider mentioned that they are still deliberating on whether Gausman will start on Sunday or Monday.

The Blue Jays are set to conclude their season-opening series against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday before traveling to Houston for a three-game series against the Astros commencing on Monday. Following Jose Berrios’ winning start on Opening Day, Chris Bassitt and Yusei Kikuchi are slated to pitch Games 2 and 3 in Tampa Bay.

Gausman faced a delayed start to spring training due to shoulder soreness but has made significant progress in his recovery. It now appears likely that he will be taking to the mound during the initial rotation.

Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi provided updates on catcher Danny Jansen, who has begun swinging again after being placed on the 10-day injured list with a fractured right pisiform. Jansen has also resumed long toss activities and catching side sessions, with batting practice and facing pitching velocity marking the next steps in his return to gameplay.

Another right-handed pitcher, Alek Manoah, who is currently on the injured list, is scheduled to complete his next side session for the Blue Jays on Monday. In his most recent outing, Manoah threw 34 pitches over two innings in a simulated game after his mound work on Wednesday.

Joey Votto is another player on the Blue Jays roster who is progressing towards a return to baseball activities, as per the latest update from the team prior to Friday’s game.

Baseball enthusiasts can catch the action as the Blue Jays aim to capitalize on their Opening Day victory with Bassitt slated to face the Rays at 6:30 p.m. ET and 3:30 p.m. PT.
