Buffalo Bills Trade Stefon Diggs to Houston Texans for Draft Picks

Buffalo Bills have made a significant roster move by trading four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans. In return, the Bills received a 2025 second-round draft pick via the Minnesota Vikings, a 2024 sixth-round pick, and a 2025 fifth-round pick. The Texans, on the other hand, acquired these picks from the Vikings in exchange for their 2024 first-round pick in a previous trade.

Texans’ Aggressive Approach

The trade for Stefon Diggs is the latest in a series of win-now moves by the Houston Texans. The team has been actively surrounding quarterback C.J. Stroud with veteran talent during this offseason. In addition to acquiring Diggs, the Texans traded for running back Joe Mixon from the Cincinnati Bengals and signed him to a lucrative contract extension. They also bolstered their defense by signing star pass rusher Danielle Hunter in free agency.

Stefon Diggs, who is 30 years old, now joins a talented Texans offense that features Stroud, the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year, along with Mixon, receivers Nico Collins and Tank Dell, and tight end Dalton Schultz. Despite suffering a season-ending injury last season, Dell was on pace for over 1,200 receiving yards before his setback, showcasing the potential of the Texans’ aerial attack.

Previous Pursuits for Top Talent

Before acquiring Diggs, the Texans reportedly tried to trade for Keenan Allen, offering a draft pick from the 2025 class. While they were unsuccessful in landing Allen, this pursuit demonstrated the team’s eagerness to improve their receiving corps to support Stroud in his second season.

On the other side of the trade, the Bills have parted ways with several key veterans this offseason, including releasing defensive stalwarts Tre’Davious White and Jordan Poyer, as well as parting ways with starting center Mitch Morse. Wide receiver Gabriel Davis and outside linebacker Leonard Floyd also departed in free agency.

Impact on Bills and Texans

Stefon Diggs had expressed his commitment to the Bills and even signed a contract extension just last year. However, the trade will result in a significant dead money charge for the Bills in the upcoming season, marking a new high for such charges for a wide receiver in any season.

Diggs’ departure leaves the Bills with a revamped receiving corps, featuring free agent additions Curtis Samuel and Mack Hollins, as well as returning player Khalil Shakir. The Texans, on the other hand, have significantly strengthened their offense with the addition of an elite talent like Diggs.

Looking Ahead

Following the trade, the Texans saw their odds shift in their favor in various betting markets, indicating the impact of acquiring Stefon Diggs on their potential success in the upcoming season. Fans can look forward to Diggs facing his old team when the Bills visit the Texans at NRG Stadium in the future.

This trade not only reshapes the rosters of both teams but also sets the stage for an intriguing matchup between two talented squads in the upcoming season.
