Canada and U.S Joint Effort in Space Security
In alignment with the United States, Canada is advancing its space security and military satellite capabilities through increased collaboration with private industry. The inaugural Canada-U.S. NORAD Modernization Summit, set to take place in Ottawa on May 1, aims to bolster defense protocols surrounding the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). NORAD is responsible for monitoring air and space activities over Canada and the U.S., safeguarding against potential threats.
New Technologies for Enhanced Radar Coverage
While details of the summit remain classified, Canadian officials have disclosed efforts to address radar coverage limitations in Canada’s northern regions and coastal areas. The Canadian defense department is exploring the implementation of over-the-horizon radar systems to amplify coverage in these previously underserved areas. Lieutenant General Blaise Frawley, NORAD deputy commander, highlighted the importance of this endeavor during a recent Parliamentary committee meeting.
Frawley emphasized the significance of expanding radar capabilities to counter emerging threats posed by nations such as Russia and China, including reports of anti-satellite weapons and surveillance activities. Brigadier-General G.
