Carolina Hurricanes Announce Official AHL Affiliate Agreement with Chicago Wolves
The Carolina Hurricanes have solidified their AHL affiliate once again, entering into a new three-year agreement with the Chicago Wolves. This partnership marks a return to the affiliation that was in place from 2020 to 2023, during which time the Wolves played an integral role in the Hurricanes organization.
Under the terms of the agreement, the Hurricanes will take on the responsibility of overseeing the hockey operations of the Chicago Wolves. This collaboration comes on the heels of the Wolves’ impressive Calder Cup victory in 2022, a championship that saw four current players – Jalen Chatfield, Jack Drury, Pytor Kochetkov, and Stefan Noesen – as key contributors to the success.
General manager of the Hurricanes, Don Waddell, expressed his enthusiasm regarding the renewed partnership with the Wolves, acknowledging the positive impact it has had on the development of the team’s prospects. Waddell stated, “We’re excited to reestablish our AHL affiliation with Chicago, and thankful that we could find a solution which worked for both clubs. Many of our prospects have already had success with the Wolves, both individually and as a team, and we’re happy to have secured a consistent environment for their development.”
A recent report by Tony Androckitis of InsideAHLHockey.com revealed that the agreement includes the option for two additional one-year extensions, providing room for further collaboration and growth between the two organizations.
Following the Wolves’ decision to operate independently prior to the 2023-24 season, the Hurricanes were left without an AHL affiliate, forcing their top prospects to be dispersed across various other leagues including the ECHL and teams in Europe. The reunion with the Chicago Wolves now ensures a stable and structured environment for the development and nurturing of the Hurricanes’ future talent.
