Charles Hoskinson Commends PRAGMA for Supporting Cardano Projects

Charles Hoskinson, the creator of Cardano and CEO of IOHK, recently shared his thoughts on the launch of the new community association PRAGMA. In a statement made on Twitter on April 22, Hoskinson praised PRAGMA for its efforts in supporting projects related to Cardano, highlighting the importance of having multiple clients and a diverse ecosystem to ensure the resilience of Cardano.

Hoskinson expressed his excitement at seeing various groups come together to work on building clients and projects for the Cardano ecosystem. Despite being newly acquainted with PRAGMA and not having engaged with the group formally on specific matters, he mentioned that PRAGMA’s involvement will not accelerate feature delivery for Cardano but will offer an additional layer of scrutiny and resilience through a fresh perspective on Cardano’s formal specifications.

Supporting the Cardano Ecosystem

The Cardano Foundation officially announced the launch of PRAGMA on April 22, describing it as a not-for-profit, open-source association with a primary focus on blockchain software development. Unlike traditional funding platforms, PRAGMA requires participants to secure funding from external sources, a strategy aimed at ensuring the association’s long-term viability.

PRAGMA boasts a notable lineup of founding members, including the Cardano Foundation, along with Blink Labs, dcSpark, Sundae Labs, and TxPipe. Notably, PRAGMA distinguishes itself from Intersect, another member-based organization within the Cardano ecosystem. While Intersect primarily functions as a governance entity for Cardano, PRAGMA is dedicated exclusively to advancing open-source software development related to Cardano.

Despite their differing objectives, PRAGMA and Intersect view their initiatives as complementary efforts that could eventually collaborate synergistically.

Initial Projects Under PRAGMA’s Wing

PRAGMA aims to contribute to the growth of the Cardano ecosystem by providing support to existing projects, fostering the development of new tools, and serving as a hub for blockchain initiatives. In its initial phase, PRAGMA is focusing on two key projects: Amaru, a Rust-based node for Cardano, and Aiken, a smart contract platform tailored for Cardano.

Looking ahead, PRAGMA plans to expand its membership to handpicked entities within the Cardano community by 2025. Furthermore, the association envisions extending its reach to encompass other blockchain ecosystems beyond Cardano, underlining its commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration in the broader blockchain space.
