Peacock Delays Streaming of Chucky Episodes, Frustrating Fans

If you eagerly logged on to Peacock on Thursday to catch the newest episode of Chucky, only to discover that it was not yet available for streaming, you were likely left feeling disappointed alongside the devoted followers of the infamous killer doll.

Leading up to this week, episodes of Chucky were promptly released for streaming on Peacock the day subsequent to their original broadcasts on Syfy and USA. The premiere of the first episode of Don Mancini’s highly anticipated second half of season three, which endured a production hiatus during the strikes last year, premiered on April 10 and became available on Peacock the following day, in accordance with the expectations of cable-cutting enthusiasts. However, commencing with this week’s installment, and continuing with the two remaining episodes, a week-long interlude will transpire between each episode’s airing and availability for streaming.

According to a Peacock press release, episodes will now be accessible on the platform seven days after their initial broadcast. As such, the episode that aired on April 17 will be streamable on April 24, the April 24 episode will be available on May 1, and the series finale on May 1 will reach Peacock viewers on May 8.

Alarmingly, Peacock failed to adequately forewarn or communicate this change to fans across any of Chucky’s official channels. Consequently, viewers have resorted to social media platforms to voice their dissatisfaction with the unanticipated delay, particularly those who subscribed to Peacock with the intention of staying current with the show upon its return.

Given the prevalence of spoilers circulating online, the delay puts a damper on the experience for a significant portion of the fan base, who may find themselves trailing a week behind in discussions and analysis. Moreover, this delay impinges on the show’s momentum by depriving its followers of the opportunity to collectively anticipate and engage with new episodes each week, irrespective of their viewing method.

The absence of clear messaging from Chucky’s official channels has left many fans scratching their heads and evaluating the situation. The show’s loyal supporters eagerly await a resolution to this vexing predicament. Perhaps Chucky himself could intervene to rectify this conundrum!

io9 has reached out to NBCUniversal for insight or clarification on this matter, and additional information will be provided if a response is received.
