Christopher Walken Makes a Bold Return in Dune: Part Two
As predicted in Fatboy Slim’s iconic “Weapon of Choice” music video, Christopher Walken’s entrance into the sci-fi realm was inevitable. In Denis Villeneuve’s highly acclaimed Dune: Part Two, Walken emerges from a four-year hiatus to embody a pivotal role in Frank Herbert’s mesmerizing universe.
Walken’s Insight on Joining Dune: Part Two
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Walken shared his motivations for taking on the challenging character of the Emperor, whose actions catalyze the intricate narrative of House Atreides in Dune. He expressed his admiration for Villeneuve’s work, particularly praising “Arrival,” and highlighted the opportunity to work alongside a stellar cast including Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh, and Stellan Skarsgård.
“I had, of course, seen the first Dune a number of times. I loved it, and I admired [Villeneuve’s] movies. Arrival, I thought, was wonderful. And to be with all those terrific actors—Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin, Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh, and Stellan Skarsgård—and to go to Budapest, which is a beautiful city. And of course, that’s what I do for a living. It was only, I think, three weeks. So, everything about it was attractive,” Walken shared with the magazine.
Almost a Star Wars Icon
Interestingly, Walken also disclosed that he came close to being a part of the Star Wars franchise, revealing that he had auditioned for a role in Han Solo alongside Jodie Foster. Reflecting on the experience, Walken acknowledged the fierce competition for coveted roles in the Star Wars universe but ultimately found his destined path in Dune: Part Two.
Dune: Part Two is now captivating audiences in theaters, marking Walken’s triumphant return to the big screen in a role that adds further dimension to his versatile acting repertoire.
