Family Background
Sharp’s connection to Canada stems from his mother, Justine Ellison Sharp, a former standout athlete who earned induction into the University of Toronto Varsity Blues hall of fame in 2009. Hailing from Hamilton, Justine excelled under the guidance of esteemed coach Michele Belanger during her tenure at the university. Her remarkable skills led to national recognition as she was named the national university women’s athlete of the year during the 1995-96 season, guiding U of T to two national silver medals.
Following her university career, Justine embarked on a successful professional basketball journey, playing for a decade in Israel. It was during this time that she crossed paths with Derrick Sharp, a distinguished basketball player with an extensive career in the sport. Derrick notably featured for the 2005 Maccabi Tel Aviv team that achieved a memorable victory over the Toronto Raptors in a pre-season matchup. This union laid the foundation for the Sharp family, with Emanuel being their offspring.

Emanuel Sharp’s exposure to professional basketball from a young age, courtesy of his parents, kindled his passion for the sport. Reflecting on his upbringing, Sharp emphasized his appreciation for the game, attributing it to his parents’ influence. Born in Tel Aviv in 2004, he initially represented Israel in the under-16 basketball team before relocating to Florida, where he now considers Tampa his hometown.
The six-foot-three guard made significant strides in his sophomore season, showcasing an impressive scoring surge as he averaged 12.3 points per game. Despite facing injury setbacks in high school, Sharp overcame adversity to contribute effectively to Houston’s top-seeded lineup last year and continues to excel on the court.
