Harry Kane Returned to Bayern Munich for Injury Recovery
England striker Harry Kane will not feature against Belgium at Wembley on Tuesday as he is being sent back to Bayern Munich to continue his recovery from an ankle injury, confirmed Gareth Southgate.
Kane sustained the ankle injury during Bayern’s 5-2 victory over Darmstadt a week ago but still joined the England squad prior to the friendly against Brazil. However, he will now return to Germany for treatment and miss the upcoming match against Belgium.
Bayern Munich will face Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga on Saturday and have a Champions League quarterfinal against Arsenal later this month. Southgate stated in a news conference, “He’s going back, he won’t be fit for Tuesday.”
England Falls to Defeat Against Brazil
In Kane’s absence, England lost to Brazil, who secured a 1-0 victory thanks to 17-year-old Endrick’s first international goal. The teenager, set to join Real Madrid in the summer, capitalized on Vinícius Júnior’s shot being saved by Jordan Pickford to become the youngest senior international goalscorer at Wembley.
Southgate commented on Endrick’s performance, saying, “We know he’s a dangerous player and he’s followed in for the goal. We should have defended the goal better than we did, but it’s a brilliant moment for him.”
Despite the disappointment of the defeat, Southgate expressed satisfaction with the team’s effort, noting, “We clearly don’t like losing, but I thought there were lots of very good individual performances from players who have hardly played for England.”
Southgate highlighted the competitive nature of the game and acknowledged that small mistakes were decisive, stating, “It was a really even game, and if it had finished as a draw, that would have been a completely fair result.”
