Ethereum NFT-Driven Property Doodles Announces Development of Animated Film
The Ethereum NFT-driven property Doodles recently unveiled plans for the production of an animated film titled “Dullsville and the Doodleverse.” This ambitious project will showcase the creative contributions of esteemed musicians such as Pharrell Williams, Dwayne “Lil Wayne” Carter, and Coi Leray.
Under the direction of Doodles co-founder and illustrator Scott “Burnt Toast” Martin, the film is currently in development at Golden Wolf, an animation studio acquired by Doodles in January 2023. Described as a “groundbreaking animation and music experience,” “Dullsville and the Doodleverse” promises to captivate audiences with its innovative approach.
Pharrell Williams, who assumed the role of Chief Brand Officer at Doodles in June 2022, will provide music for the film. The project will also see the establishment of Doodles Records, a sub-label formed in collaboration with Columbia Records, which will release a soundtrack and three accompanying music videos. Lil Wayne and Coi Leray will not only contribute to the soundtrack but will also lend their voices to characters in the film—Lil Wayne as Captain Stoke and Leray as Deysi.
The Premiere and Campaign
Set for a premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September, “Dullsville and the Doodleverse” will be preceded by the launch of a promotional campaign dubbed “Project Gray” in early summer. Reflecting on the journey leading up to the film’s debut, Doodles CEO Julian Holguin shared insights in a recent tweet thread.
Two years ago, discussions were underway with major animation studios to transform Doodles’ intellectual property into a globally recognized entertainment franchise. Despite receiving enticing offers, the decision was made to retain creative autonomy. Consequently, Golden Wolf was acquired to spearhead the project and ensure full control over its direction.
In Holguin’s words, surrendering control of their creative vision was never an option. The commitment to preserving independence and artistic integrity motivated the company to pursue an in-house production strategy.
Evolution and Expansion
Originally introduced as a 10,000 NFT project on the Ethereum blockchain in 2021, Doodles has witnessed exceptional growth, amassing close to $650 million in trading volume. Transitioning to the Flow blockchain with the launch of Doodles 2, the project has undergone a significant evolution, offering enhanced features such as avatar customization, gaming elements, and integration with the metaverse.
Embracing innovation and creative freedom, Doodles continues to push the boundaries of NFT-based content creation, establishing itself as a pioneering force in the digital art space.
