The Integration of AI in Media Production
OpenAI captivated the technology community earlier this year with the unveiling of their innovative AI model named Sora, capable of generating realistic, high-resolution videos up to 60 seconds in length. This groundbreaking technology has not only sparked excitement among tech enthusiasts and creative minds but has also raised concerns within the traditional videography and art industries.
While Sora remains inaccessible to the general public at present, OpenAI revealed back in February 2024 that it is being shared exclusively with select individuals for evaluation and exploration. Despite this limitation, a few fortunate users have already started utilizing Sora to create and share their projects.
The First AI-Generated Music Video
Recently, writer/director Paul Trillo, one of the privileged early users of OpenAI’s Sora, produced what is being hailed as the inaugural music video crafted with the assistance of this cutting-edge technology. This mesmerizing video was created for indie chillwave artist Washed Out and his latest single, “The Hardest Part.” Trillo’s creation is a four-minute visual masterpiece comprised of a series of interconnected, rapid zoom shots seamlessly stitched together to give the illusion of a continuous zoom effect.
Trillo shared on a social media platform that the concept for this video had been conceived a decade ago but was only recently brought to life using Sora. He also mentioned that the video was constructed from 55 individual clips generated by the AI model out of a collection of 700 clips, which were then meticulously assembled using Adobe Premiere.
Advancements in Video Editing Software
As OpenAI’s Sora continues to demonstrate its potential in the creative realm, industry giant Adobe has shown interest in integrating third-party AI video generation models like Sora into its Premiere Pro software. Although no specific timeline has been provided for this integration, artists and filmmakers aiming to emulate Trillo’s workflow may need to initially generate AI video clips using alternative third-party software solutions like Runway or Pika and subsequently transfer them to Premiere for editing.
In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Washed Out expressed excitement about incorporating this groundbreaking technology into his creative process. He emphasized the importance of exploring new tools and techniques to enhance artistic expression and storytelling.

Trillo’s utilization of Sora’s text-to-video capabilities underscores the potential of AI technology in elevating the creation of visual content.
