Skillz CEO Addresses Lawsuit Against AviaGames

Skillz CEO Andrew Paradise recently discussed the company’s legal battle with AviaGames in its latest earnings call. The lawsuit revolves around allegations of AviaGames executives using bots to deceive players, resulting in significant financial losses. Paradise revealed that Skillz managed to secure a $50 million settlement from AviaGames, with the total agreement amounting to $80 million.

Despite this settlement, Skillz remains vigilant, emphasizing that AviaGames is not the sole entity engaging in fraudulent practices through bot manipulation. Following a patent infringement lawsuit against AviaGames, Skillz was awarded nearly $43 million by the jury. However, the subsequent settlement between Skillz, Big Run Studios, and AviaGames includes an annual licensing royalty payment of $7.5 million for four years starting next year.

Paradise underscored the severity of the situation, stating that the $80 million settlement is merely a fraction of the total losses incurred by American consumers due to widespread bot fraud. AviaGames has allegedly disguised their use of bots with misleading terms like “cucumbers” and “guides,” as highlighted in court documents.

Legal Action Against Papaya Gaming

In addition to the lawsuit against AviaGames, Skillz has also taken legal action against Papaya Gaming for similar bot-related offenses. Paradise condemned the rampant theft of funds from unsuspecting players, emphasizing the detrimental impact of such fraudulent practices on the gaming industry as a whole.

Paradise expressed hope that Skillz’s legal actions will prompt government intervention to safeguard consumers from deceptive practices. He affirmed Skillz’s commitment to eradicating bot-driven fraud in the gaming sector to ensure a fair and transparent environment for all stakeholders.

As Skillz continues its legal pursuits, it aims to not only protect consumers but also uphold the integrity of the gaming industry. Paradise’s stance reflects the company’s unwavering dedication to combatting fraud and promoting ethical standards within the gaming landscape.
