German Football Federation Switching from Adidas to Nike as Official Kit Supplier After 70 Years

The recent decision by the German Football Federation (DFB) to end its 70-year partnership with Adidas as the national team’s official kit supplier in favor of Nike has sent shockwaves through the footballing world. This monumental shift marks a significant change in one of the most enduring alliances in the sport.

The collaboration between Germany and Adidas dates back to 1954, with a brief interlude in the 1960s and early 70s when the team donned Umbro and Erima branded kits. However, since then, Die Mannschaft has predominantly sported the iconic three stripes of Adidas.

In an official statement, the DFB announced that from 2027 to 2034, they will enter into an equipment partnership with Nike, with the latter outfitting all national teams and supporting German football comprehensively.

Throughout their illustrious history, Germany’s kits have featured a consistent design, predominantly white and black with accents in the national flag colors of black, red, and gold/yellow. Notably, the jerseys also display four stars above the DFB crest, symbolizing the team’s World Cup triumphs in 1954, 1974, 1990, and 2014.

1988-1990 home kit: The iconic design worn during the 1990 World Cup victory remains a classic, with the Bundesflagge stripes representing Germany’s World Cup performances leading up to the tournament.

As Germany transitions to a new era with Nike, the legacy of their partnerships and iconic kits with Adidas will forever hold a special place in football history.
