The House Oversight Committee Urged to Investigate Trump Media Influence Peddling
The Congressional Integrity Project has written a letter to House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) requesting an investigation into possible influence peddling by the ex-president related to Trump Media stock. The letter highlighted a new report indicating that Trump Media & Technology Group received funding from a Russian-backed trust and the recent news of two investors in Trump Media pleading guilty to securities fraud.
The committee was urged to look into potential corruption and influence peddling involving a former president and current presidential candidate. The Congressional Integrity Project emphasized the importance of rooting out corruption and protecting the integrity of the financial market.
“It is imperative to uphold ethical standards and investigate any suspicious activities that could undermine the trust of investors and the public in the financial system,” the letter stated.
Despite the committee’s previous actions indicating a strong loyalty to Donald Trump, the letter called for a focus on national interests over personal allegiances. The offer to provide further evidence of alleged influence peddling involving President Trump and his family was extended to support the investigative process.
With the plummeting stock value and controversial promotions by Trump on Truth Social, concerns about potential shareholder lawsuits and federal investigations have surfaced. The lack of transparency regarding Truth Social’s financial data and user numbers, along with apparent financial losses, raised red flags about the company’s operations.
The situation was likened to a fraudulent scheme orchestrated by Trump and his associates, with calls for regulatory scrutiny and intervention to protect investors from potential scams. The letter acknowledged the unlikely response of James Comer and House Republicans but highlighted the importance of raising public awareness and urging regulatory action through such appeals.
