Toronto Maple Leafs Goaltender Ilya Samsonov Injured During Practice
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Ilya Samsonov left Saturday morning’s practice with an apparent injury, as reported by Sports Illustrated’s David Alter. Coach Sheldon Keefe later reassured reporters that Samsonov was okay and would still be starting that evening against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Samsonov, in his third consecutive start, fell awkwardly while attempting a save and had to leave the ice to head into the team’s locker room. Despite a shaky start to the season that saw him placed on waivers, the 27-year-old goaltender has recently showcased his capabilities as the team’s primary option.
Over his last 15 games, Samsonov boasts an impressive 13-2 record and a remarkable .933 save percentage in the month of March. However, in the event that he is unable to start against the Hurricanes, the Maple Leafs will likely turn to 25-year-old Joseph Woll as their backup.
Regardless of the circumstances, the Maple Leafs will be facing off against the Hurricanes live on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT.
