Raptors Guard Quickley Expresses Desire to Stay in Toronto

Raptors guard Immanuel Quickley expressed his deep affection for the city of Toronto during the team’s end-of-season media day. Acquired mid-season in a trade that sent OG Anunoby to the New York Knicks, Quickley has quickly endeared himself to the Raptors organization and fan base.

When asked about the possibility of re-signing with the Raptors, Quickley responded with enthusiasm, stating, “Absolutely love Toronto. Since the day I got here they’ve done nothing but show me love. Love is an action word, it’s not just something you throw around. They’ve done that from the day I got here to today.”

Since joining the Raptors, Quickley has significantly elevated his performance on the court. With averages of 18.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 6.8 assists, Quickley has demonstrated his value to the team. Additionally, he has maintained an impressive 39.5 per cent shooting rate from beyond the arc, showcasing his versatility and skill.

Potential Contract Extension

Entering the final year of his rookie contract, Quickley is set to become a restricted free agent this summer. While he did not provide details on the progress toward a potential extension, Quickley made it clear that he would welcome the opportunity to continue his career in Toronto.

Although decisions regarding free agency are ultimately in the hands of his agent and the Raptors organization, Quickley reiterated his affection for the city, stating, “Obviously the team and my agent have to handle everything, but I love being here in Toronto. Absolutely.”

The Raptors hold the option to match any contract offer Quickley receives from other teams, giving them the opportunity to retain his services for the foreseeable future.

Positive Influence

Quickley’s impact extends beyond the court, as highlighted by teammate Scottie Barnes. Barnes spoke highly of Quickley’s demeanor and attitude, noting the positivity and energy he brings to the team on a daily basis.

Furthermore, Barnes emphasized the importance of having Quickley and fellow Knicks transfer RJ Barrett on the roster during a period of transition for the team. Their work ethic, positivity, and genuine care for their teammates have proven invaluable in shaping the Raptors’ culture and fostering a strong sense of camaraderie.

In conclusion, Quickley’s expressed desire to remain in Toronto reflects a mutual admiration between player and city. His contributions both on and off the court have endeared him to the Raptors organization, making him a desirable asset for the team moving forward.
