The Inevitable Games Fund: A $100 Million Blockchain Gaming Investment Collaboration

Immutable and Polygon Labs, two prominent teams behind leading Ethereum scaling networks, have joined forces with venture capital firm King River Capital to establish the Inevitable Games Fund. This investment fund, valued at $100 million, aims to support blockchain gaming projects and foster innovation within the industry.

The partnership has secured a significant commitment from Alpha Wave Ventures in Abu Dhabi, with additional contributions from notable entities such as the crypto gaming community Merit Circle, as well as the co-founders of Immutable and Polygon Labs. James and Robbie Ferguson from Immutable, as well as Sandeep Nailwal from Polygon Labs, are actively involved in steering the direction of the fund.

According to a press release, Immutable and King River Capital will play a primary role in managing the fund, with Polygon Labs providing valuable sourcing and expertise within the gaming sector. The Inevitable Games Fund has already invested in seven projects, unveiling four of them recently:

  • Pixelmon: A monster-battling game
  • MetalCore: A mech shooter
  • Guild of Guardians: A mobile role-playing game developed by Immutable
  • My Pet Hooligan: A battle royale shooter utilizing Polygon technology

While the initial focus seems centered on projects tied to the partners’ networks, the fund’s scope extends beyond these offerings. The press release indicates that investments will target games built on Web3 infrastructure, irrespective of the platform they utilize.

King River Capital’s Co-founder and Managing Partner, Zeb Rice, highlighted the tremendous growth potential within the gaming industry, stating, “Spending on video games exceeds the global revenue from movies, streaming TV, and the music industry combined, making it ripe for significant technological advancements. We believe that Web3 technology presents a similar transformative opportunity. The fund offers investors a chance to access top-tier Web3 gaming projects worldwide.”

This collaboration between Immutable and Polygon is not their first venture together. In the past, these two entities, often regarded as competitors in the Ethereum scaling realm, united to develop the Immutable zkEVM scaling network, leveraging Polygon’s zkEVM technology.
