Winnipeg Jets Blank Seattle Kraken 3-0 in Dominant Victory

Laurent Brossoit showcased his prowess with a stellar performance, making 17 saves to earn his first shutout of the season as the Winnipeg Jets triumphed over the Seattle Kraken with a commanding 3-0 win on Friday night. Mark Scheifele’s 19th goal of the season, scored 7:15 into the third period, set the tone for the Jets’ victory.

Adding to the lead, Adam Lowry found the back of the net with 8:32 remaining in the third period, solidifying Winnipeg’s advantage and pulling them even with Dallas and Colorado at the summit of the Central Division standings. Nikolaj Ehlers sealed the deal with an empty-net goal with just 49 seconds left on the clock.

Brossoit, in a standout performance, secured his fourth career shutout and first since February 2022, demonstrating his skill in goal as he fended off Seattle’s offensive efforts. The Kraken’s Tomas Tatar posed a threat with two close scoring opportunities, hitting the post in the second period and narrowly missing the mark with a backhand shot early in the third.

Seattle’s offensive struggles were evident as they were shut out for the sixth time this season. However, the tide turned when Scheifele capitalized on an opportunity in front of Kraken goalie Joey Daccord, breaking the deadlock and extending his point streak to six of the Jets’ last seven games.

Despite facing a setback with a tripping penalty, Scheifele’s resilience shone through as he returned to the ice following a brief absence. The win capped off a busy day for the Jets, who bolstered their roster with acquisitions Tyler Toffoli and Colin Miller from New Jersey ahead of the trade deadline.

On the other side, the loss proved to be a missed chance for Seattle to gain ground in the Western Conference playoff race. The Kraken, trailing the Vegas Golden Knights by six points, missed the opportunity to close the gap in the standings with two upcoming games against the division rivals.

In goal, Daccord put on a commendable performance, making 29 saves despite the defeat. Seattle faced adversity with the absence of defenseman Vince Dunn for the second consecutive game due to a suspension, as well as losing forward Jaden Schwartz to an upper-body injury early in the contest.

Upcoming Schedule

  • Winnipeg Jets: Travel to Vancouver for a matchup on Saturday.
  • Seattle Kraken: Return home to host Vegas on Tuesday.
