The Recantation of Jon Stewart

Jon Stewart took it upon himself to retract his previous statements where he claimed that Biden was too aged and frail to serve as president while on The Daily Show.

In a display of self-reflection, Stewart boldly proclaimed, “Which one of you pricks wants to fight? Put up your dukes! Biden is back, baby! I know all that all the haters have been out there, talking they are shit — he is too old, he is too weak, he won’t be able to make it, he is — I see you haters. I know who you are!” Then, in a moment of introspection, Stewart took out a mirror and blew himself a kiss. He humorously remarked on the aesthetics of the mirror he was given, showcasing his wit and charm.

Stewart acknowledged that while the State Of The Union address was reflective of the Democratic message, the real test lay in its ability to withstand a concise and intelligent rebuttal—particularly from the opposing party. The comedian humorously pondered the potential response from the G.O.P., playfully referencing Alabama senator Katie Britt.

A Change of Heart

Significantly, Stewart veered away from his previous narrative that both Trump and Biden were similarly aged individuals, and by extension, the country was doomed in the election. He offered a refreshing perspective by contrasting Trump’s performative patriotism with the G.O.P.’s portrayal, likening the former President to a would-be monarch who opposes fundamental values of freedom and democracy.

Despite a slightly shaky start in his return to The Daily Show, Jon Stewart seems to be regaining his comedic footing. The most recent episode was particularly strong, featuring a narrative cohesion that was previously lacking.
