Kamala Harris’ Response to Protest Song in Puerto Rico

During her visit to San Juan, Puerto Rico, Vice President Kamala Harris was caught on video clapping along to a protest song before abruptly stopping when an aide informed her of the song’s content and target audience.

Purpose of Harris’ Visit

Harris’s trip to Puerto Rico aimed to showcase Joe Biden’s alleged dedication to aiding the territory’s recovery from natural disasters and the Covid-19 pandemic. The focus was on highlighting the administration’s investments in Puerto Rico’s infrastructure and economic revitalization efforts.

Protest Encounter at Goyoco Community Center

After addressing hurricane-damaged areas, Harris’s motorcade arrived at the Goyoco community center in San Juan, where they were met by a group of impassioned protesters. Among the demonstrators, one held a sign labeling Harris as a “war criminal,” while another denounced the USA and Israel as “genocidal.”

Within the community center, Harris and two others were present as a musical group performed. The musicians were identified as being part of the La Goyco organization, with Mariana Reyes and Frankie Miranda among those in attendance.

Video footage captured Harris clapping and smiling in response to the protest song until Reyes enlightened her on its lyrics, which criticized her stance on Haiti and the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Content of Protest Song

“We want to know, Kamala, what did you come here for? … Long live Free Palestine and Haiti too!” the singers chanted, catching Harris by surprise during the performance.

Despite the unexpected turn, Harris showed a nod of understanding while Miranda continued to applaud politely.

Overall, the event highlighted the complexities of international politics and the need for awareness when engaging with diverse communities.
