Kris Letang to Seek Second Opinion on Lingering Injury

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang will be consulting a second medical professional to obtain an additional perspective on an injury that has been troubling him throughout the current season. General manager Kyle Dubas disclosed that the injury has been deemed “significant,” and the team is awaiting Letang’s decision regarding the course of action to be taken moving forward.

Commitment to Performance Despite Adversities

Letang mentioned to the media on Thursday that he had been managing various injuries that necessitated him to take maintenance days during the season. Head coach Mike Sullivan acknowledged Letang’s resilience and grit, referring to him as a “warrior” for his unwavering dedication to the team’s success. Despite grappling with multiple injury setbacks, Letang displayed exceptional determination by participating in all 82 games of the season, a feat he last achieved in the 2010-11 season. Remarkably, Letang maintained his offensive contributions by tallying 10 goals and 51 assists while logging an average of 24:41 minutes of ice time per game.

Overcoming Health Challenges

At 36 years old, Letang has faced significant health hurdles over the years, including enduring two strokes, one in 2014 and another in 2022. Nevertheless, Letang has exemplified resilience and fortitude, remaining a pivotal figure within the Penguins’ lineup. Notably, Letang inked a lucrative six-year contract extension worth $36.6 million with the Penguins in July 2022, underscoring the team’s confidence in his abilities and contributions to the franchise.
