Sacramento Kings G League Coach Lindsey Harding to Interview for Charlotte Hornets Head Coach Position
Sources reported to ESPN on Monday that Lindsey Harding, the coach of the Stockton Kings, the G League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, will be interviewing for the head coaching position with the Charlotte Hornets. Harding, who recently completed her first season as a head coach, achieved the honor of being named the 2024 G League Coach of the Year and led her team to the Western Conference finals.
Professional Career and Achievements
A former professional player, Lindsey Harding was the top overall pick in the 2007 WNBA draft. She enjoyed a successful nine-season career in the league before transitioning to coaching. Harding has worked as a development coach for both the Philadelphia 76ers and the Sacramento Kings, gaining valuable experience in player development and team management.
Competition for the Position
Joining Harding in the interview process for the Hornets’ head coaching vacancy is Jay Larranaga, an assistant coach with the LA Clippers. Larranaga brings a wealth of experience, having spent three seasons on Ty Lue’s staff in LA and nine years with the Boston Celtics under the guidance of Brad Stevens and Doc Rivers.
Transition in Coaching Staff
The impending transition of Hornets head coach Steve Clifford to a front office role at the conclusion of the season has prompted the initiation of a coaching search by the team’s new executive vice president of basketball operations, Jeff Peterson. In addition to Harding and Larranaga, Peterson has also sought permission to interview several other coaching candidates, including David Adelman of the Denver Nuggets, Jordi Fernandez of the Sacramento Kings, Charles Lee of the Boston Celtics, and Kevin Young of the Phoenix Suns.
As the Charlotte Hornets look to secure a new head coach to lead the team into the future, the interviews with Lindsey Harding and other experienced candidates are a crucial step in the decision-making process.
