Linus Ullmark’s Trade Saga Continues

Despite the passing of the trade deadline, the story surrounding the potential trade of Linus Ullmark is far from over. The Boston Bruins goaltender was the subject of trade rumors leading up to the deadline, as the team looked to make improvements in other areas. While Ullmark was not moved, speculations about a possible summer trade are still circulating, as reported by Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.

Complex Trade Dynamics

Ullmark’s current situation is complicated by a 16-team no-trade clause, which allows him to block deals with half the teams in the NHL. According to Friedman, a trade was in place to send Ullmark to a team that was on his no-trade list, but he chose not to waive the clause, halting the deal. While there were rumors linking him to the Los Angeles Kings, Ullmark and GM Don Sweeney have not confirmed this information.

Friedman also mentioned that the Bruins engaged in discussions with teams not included on Ullmark’s no-trade list, providing potential trade options that are not subject to his veto. However, these talks did not result in any immediate moves, with some possibly carrying over into the offseason.

Team Dynamics and Performance

Within the Bruins, Ullmark finds himself playing second fiddle to Jeremy Swayman, who boasts impressive statistics with a .922 save percentage and a 2.45 goals-against average. Despite being the reigning Vezina Trophy winner, Ullmark currently occupies the backup role in the goaltending hierarchy.

During a recent game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Ullmark started in net and helped secure a 5-1 victory for the Bruins. His emotional week was highlighted by his desire to remain with the team, expressing a strong attachment to Boston.

The 30-year-old goalie is under contract for $5 million this season and has one year remaining on his current four-year, $20-million deal. With a solid record of 16-7-7, Ullmark maintains a 2.77 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage for the season.

Currently, the Boston Bruins hold a strong 38-13-15 record, positioning them second in the Atlantic Division and second overall in the NHL.
