LSU Running Back John Emery Jr. Enters Transfer Portal

Former top-15 recruit John Emery Jr., who previously had limited playing time with the LSU Tigers, has made the decision to enter the transfer portal as a graduate student. Emery, ranked as ESPN’s No. 11 overall recruit in the 2019 class, accumulated 1,062 career rushing yards and 14 touchdowns during his time with the Tigers. He started five games and made appearances in 37 overall, with his most significant playing time occurring in the 2021 and 2022 seasons, where he recorded 75 and 76 carries, respectively.

Emery faced setbacks during the 2021 season due to academic issues and was briefly away from the team in 2023 to focus on academics. Despite these challenges, he managed to return to the team without missing any games. In the 2023 season, the Destrehan, Louisiana native participated in seven games, tallying 23 carries for 121 yards and a touchdown. With one year of eligibility left, Emery’s future in collegiate football remains open for exploration.

Team Transition and Player Movement

LSU has experienced significant changes in its roster recently, notably losing quarterback Jayden Daniels, the 2023 Heisman Trophy recipient, who led the team in carries, rushing yards, and rushing touchdowns. Additionally, running back Logan Diggs, who joined LSU from Notre Dame and garnered 653 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, made a move to Ole Miss in January. Emery’s decision to enter the transfer portal adds to the dynamic shifts within the LSU football program.

As college football continues to evolve and players seek opportunities that align with their personal and athletic goals, the transfer portal has become a pivotal tool for student-athletes navigating their futures. Emery’s choice to explore new possibilities underscores the ever-changing landscape of collegiate sports and the importance of adaptability in responding to individual needs and aspirations.
