Chief Jeff Walther of the Scottsdale Police released a statement post-incident, shedding light on a concerning pattern of officer-involved shootings in the region. Chief Walther disclosed that within the past 14 months, this marked the fifth incident involving officers who responded to direct threats by suspects.

Over the last 14 months for Scottsdale Police, I’ve had four different officer-involved shootings, each where the suspect shot at us. So we end up returning fire. Thankfully, Sgt. Galbreth recovered from his injuries, but we continue to see this over and over and over again.

Chief Walther also confirmed that the responding officers belonged to different ranks, with one being a junior and the other a senior officer.
