Update on Toronto Maple Leafs’ Mitch Marner’s Recovery

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is steadily improving in his recovery from a high-ankle sprain but is expected to miss the upcoming two games, confirmed head coach Sheldon Keefe on Friday. The 26-year-old sustained the lower-body injury during a match against the Boston Bruins on March 7 and has been absent from gameplay since then. Keefe informed the press that Marner has been on the ice for the past few days, and the current plan is for him to rest the next day and then continue his rehabilitation regimen.

Impact of Marner’s Absence

During Marner’s hiatus, the Maple Leafs have managed a record of 3-2, highlighting the significance of his presence on the team and their performance.

Possible Absence of Tyler Bertuzzi

Adding to the roster concerns, forward Tyler Bertuzzi’s participation in the upcoming game against the Edmonton Oilers is uncertain. Despite his standout performance in a recent game alongside the Maple Leafs’ top line, Bertuzzi was absent from Friday’s practice due to illness. Keefe mentioned that a decision on Bertuzzi’s availability would be deliberated just before the game.

Bertuzzi’s contributions to the team include 15 goals and 34 points across 67 appearances.

Injury Update on Ilya Lyubushkin

Defenceman Ilya Lyubushkin continues to be sidelined due to illness and will not feature in the upcoming match against the Oilers. His absence marks the third consecutive game missed since his acquisition on the trade deadline. However, there is a positive development as he returned to practice after a six-day break.

Don’t miss the Maple Leafs challenging the Oilers in a riveting match on Hockey Night in Canada, broadcast starting at 6:30 p.m. PT / 3:30 p.m. PT on Saturday.
