Marquise “Hollywood” Brown set to join Kansas City Chiefs

Former Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown is on the verge of signing a lucrative one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, sources disclosed to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Thursday. The deal is rumored to be valued at up to $11 million and is expected to bolster the Chiefs’ receiving corps significantly.

The acquisition of Brown signifies a notable upgrade for quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, addressing a key area of concern that emerged following their recent Super Bowl victory. Despite clinching their second consecutive Lombardi Trophy, the team faced challenges with a lackluster wide receiver lineup. While rookie Rashee Rice showed promise, the team primarily relied on temporary options to support their championship aspirations.

Brown’s imminent arrival in Kansas City promises to enhance the team’s offensive firepower, with his potential partnership with Rice and recent addition Irv Smith Jr., alongside star tight end Travis Kelce, creating a formidable offensive unit.

In an expressive Instagram post shared on Thursday evening, Brown conveyed his excitement about joining the Chiefs, captioning a photo of himself in the team’s uniform with the words “Blessed Beyond Measures…Excited To Be Apart Of Chiefskingdom.”

Having been traded from the Ravens to the Cardinals in 2022, Brown’s pursuit of a long-term contract was unfruitful leading up to the 2023 season, exacerbated by a lingering heel injury that hampered his performance. The talented receiver has faced challenges with injuries in recent seasons, experiencing a decline in his on-field availability since 2020.

During the 2023 season, Brown recorded career-low statistics, tallying 574 receiving yards across 14 games. Despite being targeted 101 times and securing 51 receptions with four touchdowns, his productivity suffered, evidenced by a decrease in yards per target and yards after the catch.

A first-round pick by the Ravens in the 2019 NFL Draft, Brown has amassed impressive career stats, including 313 receptions for 3,644 yards and 28 touchdowns. His standout season came in 2021, where he eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark with 91 receptions for 1,008 yards while playing for Baltimore.
