Skydance unveils Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra at Epic Games Event

Amy Hennig of Skydance introduced Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra during the Epic Games showcase at the Game Developers Conference.

The game trailer features highly realistic imagery, showcasing incredible human facial animations in cinematic sequences. Hennig emphasized the immersive movie-like experience while sharing the stage with Epic Games CTO Kim Libreri at the State of Unreal event.

Imagery Details and Effects

Hennig highlighted striking visuals, such as a searchlight illuminating snow in a winter war setting, made possible by Epic’s Nanite Tesselation technology. She also demonstrated effects like smoke and fire emerging from a barrel in the game.

The attention to detail is evident in Captain America’s suit, which fits perfectly and resembles authentic clothing on a character. Scenes depicting Black Panther and Captain America engaging in combat on a bridge exhibit remarkable visual fidelity. Hennig emphasized that the game’s goal is to pay homage to these iconic characters by faithfully reflecting their performances with exceptional detail.

Technical Achievements with Unreal Engine

Hennig and Libreri shared insights into the innovative technical approaches employed by Skydance using the Unreal Engine.

The trailer showcases intense battles between Captain America, Black Panther, and Nazi forces during WWII. The facial features, created with the Unreal MetaHuman technology, are strikingly realistic. The fluidity of parkour movements and the lifelike appearance of Captain America’s suit further enhance the gaming experience. Additionally, the strategically incorporated searchlights contribute to sophisticated lighting effects across various scenes.
