Masters Experience: A Culinary Delight
Jordan Janes, a first-time visitor to the Masters, knew that indulging in a pimento cheese sandwich was an essential part of embracing the Augusta National experience. Despite the sandwich containing 556 calories and 35 grams of fat, Janes, a health-conscious 42-year-old from St. Louis, was determined to savor the iconic treat without guilt. In his words, “I’m a healthy guy, but I’m going to let go a little while I’m here. And I’ve already done 17,000 steps today, so I’m not going to feel guilty about it for a minute. … And it was worth it.”
Jimmy Murray, a 32-year-old from Minneapolis, also sampled the pimento sandwich for the first time along with the egg salad sandwich. Describing the pimento sandwich as “fantastic” and praising its unique flavor, Murray appreciated the novelty of this culinary experience not commonly found in the Midwest.
Despite rising food costs across the country due to inflation, prices at Augusta National have remained relatively stable over the years. A club sandwich or barbeque sandwich is still priced at $3 and can be complemented with a Georgia peach ice cream sandwich for an additional $3. However, the price of beer has increased to $6 this year from $5 in 2023.
The Masters menu offers a variety of options at affordable prices, including:
-
SANDWICHES
- Egg salad sandwich: $1.50
- Pimento cheese: $1.50
- Pork Bar-B-Que: $3
- Masters club: $3
- Chicken salad on honey wheat: $3
- Classic chicken: $3
Moreover, patrons can enjoy breakfast items such as coffee, chicken biscuit, breakfast sandwich, and fresh mixed fruit priced between $2 and $3. Various beverages, including soft drinks, water, iced tea, Crow’s Nest, domestic and imported beer, and white wine, are available for $2 to $6. In addition, a selection of snacks like chips, peanuts, cookies, cheese straws, and Georgia pecan caramel popcorn can be purchased for $1.50 to $3.
One notable absence from the menu remains cell phones. Augusta National maintains its strict no-cell-phone policy on the course, a unique feature that fosters a return to simpler times. While some may find the restriction inconvenient, others like Janes appreciate the opportunity to disconnect and engage in meaningful conversations without distractions. As Janes eloquently puts it, “It brings you back to the simple life and how life used to be.”
