Legal Charges Against Michael Thomas Dismissed
Former New Orleans Saints wide receiver, Michael Thomas, had misdemeanor charges of simple battery and criminal mischief dismissed, according to his attorney, Daniel “Becket” Becnel. The charges stemmed from an incident outside Thomas’ residence in Kenner, Louisiana on Nov. 10, 2023, where a verbal altercation with a local contractor over parking issues escalated.
“We had been working through an outcome like this with the Kenner prosecutor, exchanging videos and seeing if there was any evidence of their allegations,” Becnel stated. “There was no evidence of injuries, medical bills, or property damage. The complainant alleged assault with video evidence that did not exist. After thorough review, the prosecutor agreed, leading to the dismissal of the matter.”
Thomas was briefly detained that night but subsequently released. The following day, he joined the team to face the Minnesota Vikings but suffered a knee injury early in the game, landing him on injured reserve for the rest of the season.
“This incident was a dispute between a contractor and his employees, where no criminality occurred,” Becnel clarified. “There was no assault or property damage. Thomas, a former second-round pick by the Saints in 2016, was recently let go by the team at the start of free agency after a limited 2023 season.”
Recognized as the 2019 NFL Offensive Player of the Year, Thomas holds the single-season receptions record with 149 catches that season. However, injuries have plagued him since, limiting his appearances on the field. Despite challenges, Thomas remains focused on his NFL career and personal growth.
