Microsoft Unveils Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 for Businesses

Microsoft is introducing significant updates to two of its Surface PCs today exclusively for businesses and commercial customers. The Surface Pro 10 and the 13.5- and 15-inch Surface Laptop 6 contain major internal enhancements to Microsoft’s mainstream Surface devices. Having been last updated nearly a year and a half ago, both devices now feature new Intel chips with notably faster integrated GPUs, improved webcams, the innovative Copilot key, and enhanced battery life, as indicated by Microsoft’s official specifications.

Business-Exclusive Devices

These exclusive business models are not novel as Microsoft previously launched a business-oriented Surface Go 3 tablet last fall and a variant of the Surface Pro 7+ specifically for businesses in early 2021. However, this announcement marks the first time that new versions of the flagship tablet and laptop have been introduced without a consumer offering. Consequently, these devices will not be available directly from Microsoft for regular consumers or in most retail stores.

Future Consumer Devices

Despite this focus on business-oriented products, Microsoft is reportedly developing new consumer-targeted Surface devices. According to reports, a new Surface featuring Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon X chip is scheduled to debut in May and is expected to take over as the flagship consumer Surface device.

Hardware and Features

The Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 have been updated with Intel Core Ultra CPUs based on the Meteor Lake architecture, featuring improved battery life estimates with up to 19 hours of use under typical conditions. The integration of faster Arc-integrated GPUs and neural processing units enhances performance, and Microsoft utilizes them for AI and machine-learning tasks, notably showcased through advanced webcam features.

The addition of new webcam hardware, ultrawide field of view, and Windows Hello biometric logins in both devices enhance security and user experience. Additionally, the Surface Pro 10 includes an NFC reader for hardware security keys, while dedicated hardware TPM modules support drive encryption and other security features.

Availability and Pricing

Pre-orders for these systems will begin in select markets on March 21, with shipping commencing on April 9. While specific pricing details have not been disclosed, given their status as business devices, they are likely to be priced slightly higher than equivalent consumer-grade PCs.
