Americans Fear Election-Related Violence

Recent polling indicates that a significant number of Americans are concerned about the potential for violence following the 2024 election. This anxiety is not unfounded, particularly for those who recall the tumultuous events surrounding Trump’s inauguration in 2017. Antifa and other leftist groups instigated numerous acts of destruction and violence in Washington, DC during that time.

If Trump emerges victorious once again in 2024, the situation could escalate even further, raising the stakes for maintaining public safety and order.

Survey Reveals Widespread Apprehension

An enlightening new poll conducted by The Tarrance Group, Research Lake Partners, and Georgetown University, referred to as the Battleground Civility Poll, has unveiled some alarming findings. A staggering 78 percent of respondents expressed apprehension that violent incidents may erupt as a result of the 2024 election. In contrast, only 23 percent indicated they were not concerned at all.

Analysis of Political Division

In addition to gauging specific fears about violence, participants were queried on their perceptions of the current state of political polarization within the country. On a scale from 0 to 100, where 0 represents no political division and 100 symbolizes political discord bordering on civil war, respondents on average rated the level of division at 70.85. This figure suggests a prevailing sense of unease regarding the potential for societal fragmentation and conflict.

Comparatively, the survey results from 2021 indicated an even higher average score of 76.01, highlighting a notable decrease in levels of concern. This shift in sentiment may be attributed to the tensions surrounding the January 6 protests and Biden’s contentious inauguration.

Potential for Reconciliation

Despite the prevailing unease, a noteworthy 88 percent of individuals expressed the belief that political divisions could be alleviated through bipartisan efforts to reach consensus on critical issues. However, the current political landscape appears unfavorable for substantial compromises on contentious topics such as immigration and abortion.

The unfounded narrative pushed by Democrats and the media, portraying Trump supporters as inherently violent, contradicts the facts. If Trump secures victory in 2024, heightened security measures will be imperative in Washington to prevent any potential outbreaks of violence, with no indication of such behavior stemming from his supporters.
