MSNBC Faces Internal Backlash Over Decision Regarding Ronna McDaniel
Amidst internal backlash from its own anchors and employees, MSNBC has made the decision not to feature Ronna McDaniel on the network.
Rashida Jones, the network’s president, responded to the internal outcry following an announcement by NBC News regarding McDaniel’s hiring as an on-air contributor. In an internal memo issued on Friday, the political chief, Carrie Budoff Brown, stated that McDaniel would contribute “across all NBC News platforms,” causing distress among several of the network’s on-air hosts and staffers.
Jones addressed concerned employees, confirming that MSNBC has no plans to have McDaniel on the channel. Many anchors and producers within the network have expressed reservations about McDaniel’s connections to former President Donald Trump and the Republican National Committee’s involvement in his attempts to challenge the 2020 election results.
Revised Plans and Backlash
While the original intention was to include McDaniel on all NBC News platforms, including MSNBC, the vehement opposition to featuring one of Trump’s associates led Comcast to backtrack on the decision.
McDaniel is set to be interviewed by Kristen Welker on Sunday morning’s Meet The Press, and she is expected to contribute to NBC’s political coverage on various channels. However, the backlash, particularly from viewers, has been substantial.
Comcast, as the corporate owner of NBC, appears to perceive MSNBC’s progressive stance as merely a branding strategy they can disregard. Despite McDaniel’s appointment in corporate media, MSNBC viewers can now rest assured that she will not appear on their channel.
