Legendary NBA Star Blake Griffin Announces Retirement
Renowned NBA athlete, Blake Griffin, has officially declared his retirement from professional basketball following an illustrious 15-year career. The six-time NBA All-Star made this momentous decision public on Tuesday, marking the end of an era in the realm of professional sports.
A Career Highlighted by Excellence
Griffin, who did not participate in any games this season, last graced the court as a member of the Boston Celtics during the previous season. In a heartfelt social media post, he expressed his profound gratitude towards the sport that has shaped his life. Rather than opting for a conventional retirement announcement, Griffin chose to convey his emotions authentically.
“As I reflect on my career, the one feeling I kept coming back to and the one thing I wanted to express was thankfulness,” Griffin stated. “The game of basketball has given me so much in this life, and I wouldn’t change a thing. Last but certainly not least, here comes the obligatory, ‘I’m excited for my next chapter’ part: just kidding. I’m done.”
The talented athlete, originally hailing from Oklahoma City, was selected as the first overall pick by the Los Angeles Clippers in 2009 subsequent to a successful collegiate career with the Oklahoma Sooners. His onset into professional basketball was slightly delayed by a knee injury sustained during Summer League.
Upon recovering from his injury, Griffin emerged as a force to be reckoned with during the 2010-11 NBA season, earning a spot in the NBA All-Star Game. Notable achievements during his career include participation in the Rookie Challenge and clinching victory in the Slam Dunk Contest by leaping over the hood of a car. His prowess on the court led to three All-NBA second team selections (2012-2014) and two All-NBA third team selections (2015 and 2019).
Throughout his tenure in the NBA, Griffin showcased his talent with the Los Angeles Clippers for eight seasons, as well as stints with the Detroit Pistons, Brooklyn Nets, and the aforementioned Boston Celtics. Concluding his career at the age of 35, Griffin leaves behind a remarkable legacy, boasting career averages of 19.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game.
