NBC Cancels 2022 Quantum Leap Series After Two Seasons

NBC has recently announced the cancellation of the 2022 Quantum Leap series after a two-season run. This decision comes following the show’s finale back in mid-February. According to reports from Deadline, the network had been uncertain about the show’s future beyond season two. While the first season was on its winter break, NBC greenlit a second season, but unfortunately, it did not live up to expectations.

Despite being recognized as a well-constructed series that stayed true to its source material, Quantum Leap lacked the same level of excitement and engagement as the original show. Of all the shows from the 2023-2024 season, this is the only one that NBC has decided to cancel. The network previously renewed various Dick Wolf-led programs, along with new series like Found and The Irrational.

Following the announcement, Raymond Lee, who played the series lead Ben Song, expressed his gratitude to the fans and viewers. In an Instagram post, Lee thanked fans for their unwavering support, describing the experience as the ride of a lifetime. Similarly, co-lead Caitlin Bassett, known for her role as Adeline Augustine, bid farewell to the show and its loyal followers.

The second season finale saw Ben and Addison reunited once again, embarking on a time-traveling journey together. Showrunners Martin Gero and Dean Georgaris revealed to Deadline that they had crafted the finale as a potential series conclusion in case NBC chose not to renew the show for more seasons. Despite setbacks like Hollywood strikes, the writers had already mapped out the story for a third season.

Georgaris reflected on the series’ ending, remarking that while it may feel like a resolution for audiences, it actually serves as the starting point for a broader narrative. He teased that the planned third season opener would have united the main characters in a surprising way, setting the stage for new adventures.

Future Viewing Options

With NBC officially pulling the plug on Quantum Leap, the series is now available for streaming on Peacock. For more entertainment news and updates, stay tuned to io9 for the latest on Marvel, Star Wars, Star Trek, the DC Universe, and Doctor Who.
