Hollywood Aims to Revive Little Shop of Horrors Once Again

Hollywood has been making efforts for years to revive the classic film Little Shop of Horrors for a new generation of cinema-goers. Initial plans involved Arrowverse head Greg Berlanti attempting a new version with Billy Porter and possibly Chris Evans. Unfortunately, this project was ultimately scrapped in 2022, but the industry is not giving up on reintroducing the beloved film to audiences.

Rebooting Little Shop of Horrors with a Halloween Twist

According to a report by Deadline, the horror-comedy film is set to be rebooted with Joe Dante, director of Gremlins, taking the reins. Roger Corman, who directed the original 1960 film, will serve as a co-producer for the project. The reboot, named Little Shop of Halloween Horrors, is envisioned as the beginning of a new movie franchise. Charles S. Haas, known for his work on Gremlins 2, has penned the script for this reimagined version.

The plot of the original Little Shop of Horrors followed a florist named Seymour who discovers a plant resembling a Venus flytrap, which he names Audrey Jr. (or Audrey II in the musical adaptation). The plant manipulates Seymour into feeding it people, leading to chaotic consequences. While the upcoming movie is expected to maintain this general premise, it may incorporate Halloween-specific elements to add a fresh twist to the familiar story.

Uncertainty Surrounding the Tone of the Reboot

It remains unclear whether the new adaptation will lean more towards the straight horror-comedy style of the original or opt for the musical approach taken in the popular 1986 adaptation. The direction chosen could significantly impact the overall feel and reception of the movie among audiences.

While awaiting the release of the revamped Little Shop of Horrors, enthusiasts can revisit previous iterations of the film on platforms like Prime Video. For a quirky and enjoyable experience, viewers with access to Max can also watch the “Little Rock of Horrors” episode from the Billy & Mandy series. Although brief, this episode offers a delightful homage to the beloved franchise.
