Nico Hulkenberg Announces Move to Sauber in 2025

On Friday, it was officially confirmed that Nico Hulkenberg will be leaving Haas to join Sauber in 2025. The German driver, who joined Haas in 2023 after a few seasons without a full-time ride, has been one of the standout performers on the grid this season.

In a statement released by Haas, team principal Ayao Komatsu expressed his gratitude to Hulkenberg for his contributions to the team. He praised Hulkenberg for being a great team player and commended his valuable experience and feedback, which have played a crucial role in improving the team’s overall performance, as evidenced by his strong showings in both qualifying and races in the VF-24 this season.

Despite the upcoming move to Sauber, Hulkenberg is expected to continue providing his insights and inputs to Haas for the remainder of the 2024 season. The team is optimistic about benefiting from his expertise as they strive for success on the track.

Potential Changes at Sauber

With Hulkenberg’s impending departure, Sauber is set to undergo some changes in their driver lineup. Current drivers Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu are rumored to be leaving the team at the end of the season. Sources suggest that Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz is a leading candidate to join Sauber in 2025.

On the other hand, Haas is expected to sign Ferrari reserve driver Oliver Bearman as a replacement for Hulkenberg. Bearman’s impressive performance as Sainz’s substitute at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix has caught the attention of the team management, making him a top choice for the vacant seat.

As for Hulkenberg’s teammate at Haas, Kevin Magnussen, his future with the team remains uncertain. Whether Magnussen will continue with Haas or if the team will explore other options to complete their driver lineup for the next season is yet to be determined.
