No Labels Struggle to Find a Nominee
Leaked audio from a recent No Labels delegate meeting reveals a significant challenge faced by the group – the inability to secure a presidential nominee.
The call, as reported by The New Republic, concluded with No Labels national convention chair Mike Rawlings expressing the necessity for the group to identify a viable candidate. Rawlings candidly admitted, “We don’t have a candidate. And it’s possible in the end we won’t find a suitable candidate.”
Greg Sargent highlighted that prominent figures like Joe Manchin, Nikki Haley, Larry Hogan, and Kyrsten Sinema have all declined potential candidacy under the No Labels banner. The reluctance stems from the belief that aligning with this ticket would only serve to propel Trump back into the White House, a scenario no serious contender wishes to be associated with.
The lack of transparency within No Labels’ decision-making process is alarming, with leaks becoming the only means through which their activities are brought to light. This opacity shields the organization from public scrutiny and accountability, raising concerns about their commitment to democratic principles.
Despite media hype surrounding a potential third-party run, the reality is stark. As March progresses, No Labels struggles to attract any credible national figure willing to take the risk of running for president under its banner. The situation appears to be less of a genuine political movement and increasingly resembles a faltering endeavor.
